That allows the user to raise or lower the coupler as needed to match the tow vehicle's hitch height with ease. But it doesn't slow down a thief.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBy putting a regular lock on the coupler or mount, you barely effect the stealing process. The thief can remove the bolts with a wrench without making noise, install a new coupler and steal your trailer. With most dump trailers now starting at $8,000, and up, this is a serious problem. If you weld in your bolts so the thieves can't remove it, you loose the ability to raise or lower it as designed, losing functionality. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInvented, designed, and built by a retired police detective who is also a CNC machinist and a dump trailer rental business owner. He invented this lock after having one of his dump trailers stolen. The trailer had been secured with a commercially available name brand lock. He learned from this experience and designed a lock which solved the security shortcomings of the other available locking devices on the market. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe resulting lock box is constructed of 1\/4\" thick steel side plates, 3\/16\" face plate, and an armored steel ring which protects the lock. Designed for use with puck locks which have a shackle on the back hidden from view. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese lock boxes come with a black paint finish. The pins are constructed of 303 stainless steel and the plates that make up the body of the box are grade 50 steel. The top pin that holds the locking cartridge in place is cross drilled for a cotter pin providing extra security in case a thief tries to defeat the lock by cutting off the sides of the box with an angle grinder. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo use this locking system, you just remove your coupler, install the locking cartridge in its place, slip on the lock box and put on the puck lock. It is a bit more work than just attaching a lock to the coupler, but if you want the trailer to be there when you come back for it than this is a much better option. A thief needs to be fast or quiet.
